Obituary for Ronald Roy Phillips

Ronald Roy Phillips
Phillips, Ronald Roy
(1935-2017)

Phips, Big Ron, Ronnie, Bear

Surrounded by his loving family, Ron paddled out in his cedar-strip canoe for an eternal fishing trip. Loved dearly by his wife Joan (Robinson) for 59 years and beyond. Loved and missed by his children: Karen Gourlay (Garth), Cindy Wood (Brian), Lori Ferguson, and Ron Phillips (Cheri). Beloved Papa to Bailey (Mitchell), Evan (Jenny), Kandice, Amanda (Cole), Austin (Emily), Alanna (Joe), Travis (Laura), Grayam, and Leo. Great Grandpa to Callum and Eva. Dearly loved by Anne Marie McKay, Tom Fittante, and the Robinson family. Loving brother of the late Carl(Minnie), Ted(Faith), and Diana Coleman. Ron retired from Dofasco in 1992. He was a professional fly fisherman and fly tier, expert archer and marksman, as well as craftsman and astronomy enthusiast. He was a member of many Outdoor/Wildlife Organizations as well as the Dofasco Fishing Club for 50 years. He loved spending time at his cottage on the Saugeen River. But Ron's greatest loves, prides and joys were his family and his wife, Joanie. Thank you to the caring staff of St. Joseph's Villa in Dundas and the excellent care at both St Joseph's Hospital Emergency Department and the 6th floor CTU. As per Ron’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave. (between Mohawk and Fennell) on Saturday January 21, 2017 from 10a.m.-12p.m. A Celebration of Ron’s life will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 12 p.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Hamilton and St. Joseph's Villa Pine Grove.

Not gone forever, just simply gone fishin’.
