Obituary for Sr. Louisitia Dietrich

DIETRICH, Sister Louisita, School Sister of Notre Dame

Died at Notre Dame Convent, Waterdown, Ontario on February 6, 2017 at the age of 87 and in her 68th year as a School Sister of Notre Dame

Predeceased by her parents Louis and Caroline (Meyer) Dietrich and her brothers, Bert, Leander, Joseph and sisters, Rose Straus, Loretta Taylor, Clara Hartman, Esther Ganci and Edna Wagner. Lovingly remembered by members of her religious community, her sisters Frieda Cole, Bernice Koebel and Eileen Cox and nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Hamilton Teachers’ College, Sister Louisita taught at St. Anne School, Port Dalhousie and St. Mary School, Oakville. In 1966 due to illness she had to discontinue teaching. Sister Louisita’s limitations did not prevent her from developing new skills. She took computer courses and attended seminars to attain teacher certification in ceramics. With the kiln and potter’s wheel she created a variety of art pieces and filled many orders. Sister Louisita also, became a member of CUSA (Catholic Union of Sick in America). She was conscientious in letter writing and phoning, offering hope and encouragement to the members.
For several years she was sacristan for the convent chapel. Also, she was the main receptionist at Notre Dame Convent. In spite of her illness, Sister Louisita was always pleasant and cheerful.

Visitors will be received at Notre Dame Convent on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 7:00- 8:00pm. Prayer service will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00am. Interment at Notre Dame Convent Cemetery.
