Condolences

Condolence From: Rose Orr
Condolence: Sincere condolences to the Sherlock family. Father Phil will be missed by so many. We were so blessed to have him as our pastor until he retired. I am a member of the Resurrection (funeral) choir and was honoured to be able to sing at Father's funeral. It was so impressive to see so many clergy in attendance. R.I.P. Father Phil.

Condolence: Dear Bishop Sherlock and Family, May the Lord give you Peace! I offer the support of my condolences and prayers as you commend Fr. Philip to the Lord. I suspect the Lord welcomed him into the Communion of Saints with these words: "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter the joy of your Lord."Know that you will continue to have a particular place in my prayer as you grieve him. May Father Philip and all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. bro Gerald M. Craig, OFM Cap.

Condolence: Father Phil filled a void in my life over 40 years ago after my father died. He was my teacher at Cathedral, my mentor and my friend. He loved story telling. Always a keen observer, the stories he shared were the stories of the people in his life; they usually contained a gem of wisdom and a large dose of humour. Generous and forgiving, he is surely in the presence of God.

Condolence: My father, Bill Kula, taught with Father Phil for many years at Cathedral Boys' High School. I met Father Phil when I was a teenager and he was a guest in our home for many many years. He was a wonderful human being, a witty raconteur, a delightful dinner companion and an amazing priest. Dad called him "Speedy" when Father Phil delivered an outstanding quick sermon on a hot summer Sunday. It was Father Phil whom my Dad wanted to see when he was at the end of his life. He will be missed.

Condolence: Father Sherlock was a great example to me during my years at Cathedral High School. I remember his ease of comfort when working with young men , especially those of us who were athletic. He was a great role model and inspiration to those of us who wanted a young priest relating to young men growing up in Hamilton during the seventies. I'm sad to hear that he has passed and I hope he is with God. TK

Condolence From: Tony Lo Presti
Condolence: I was fortunate to have known Father Sherlock as a teacher when I attended Cathedral Boys’ High School in Hamilton as a student, then as a colleague when I started teaching at St. Mary’s High School in Hamilton where he was serving as chaplain, and finally as pastor in residence at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Burlington where my family and I attend as parishioners. Father Phil possessed a razor-sharp mind and an extensive erudition that impressed anyone with whom he conversed; and yet he exuded a quiet unobtrusive manner and an affability that could win over anyone with whom he came in contact. I am deeply saddened that the Church has lost such an exemplary priest and such an unforgettable human being. His presence in this earthly life touched the lives of many for the better. God bless you and rest in peace Father Phil. Tony, Cathy, and Joseph Lo Presti

Condolence: Fr. Phil was a presence at many of our family gatherings growing up since he was very close with our dad, Tim, and our uncle, Kevin. He was always a source of humour and knowledge and we can so easily picture his smile and hear his laugh, which typically emerged as he recounted the golf trips he so enjoyed. Our Dad thought the world of him, which automatically meant that we did too. We respected him so much and it's clear, by reading the other posts here, that he touched so many lives. Sending our condolences, best wishes and love to his family and church community.
