Obituary for Judas Taddeus "Jude Toddy" D'Souza

Judas Taddeus "Jude Toddy" D'Souza
D’SOUZA, Jude Toddy (Judas Taddeus)
May 5th, 1948 - August 24th, 2018

It is with deep sorrow in our hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Judas D’Souza in his home, after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 70. His earthly journey has ended but his eternal life in Christ has only just begun. Through us - his beloved wife and best friend of 38 years Merl, his adoring children Darrell (Patricia), Rachael and Daniel, and his cherished grandchildren Samuel and Anna - his legacy lives on.
Toddy was born in Nairobi, Kenya to Evarist and Teotina D’Souza. One of ten siblings, he had a special bond, natural closeness and love for all of his brothers and sisters - Philomena, Elvira (late), Amey, Sophie, Anthony (late), Joseph, Xavier, Bosco and Marina. Toddy had an adventurous spirit and a kind, gentle soul which he carried with him to London, England in 1968 when his family immigrated from Africa. One of his fondest memories was embarking on the trip of a lifetime - driving a VW camper van from England to Goa, India; navigating across continents into foreign lands and exotic places.
It was here in Goa that he met Merl, the great love of his life. In 1980, they were married in England and immigrated once again, this time to Hamilton, Canada, where they made a life for themselves.
From Kenya, to London, to the place he called home, Lawnhurst Drive, Toddy made many memories and lifelong friends. Painting, music and his unwavering faith surrounded his heart. He approached life with compassion, selflessness and a gentleness that knew no bounds. Toddy was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Special thanks to the C-3 ward at Juravinski Hospital and our palliative team at home for their exceptional care. Deep appreciation to our family and friends for the love and prayers they brought to Toddy’s bedside.
Visitation will be held at PX DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave. Hamilton) on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with prayers at 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (20 Idlewood Ave. Hamilton) on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 11am. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Garner Road West. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Juravinski Cancer Centre or St. Margaret Mary Parish in Toddy's memory may be made.
