MacInnis, Daniel Bennett

Passed away in his 86th year, on November 17th, 2018 surrounded by his family at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice after a hard fought battle with kidney cancer. Beloved husband of Edna MacInnis (nee Hanlon) for 56 years. Loving father to Bennett (Jennifer), Theresa Noonan (Francis) and Patricia. He will be missed lovingly by his grandchildren Ceileighn, Connor, Claire, Camdan and Sadie (Noonan) and his bud Ruckus. Remembered dearly by his many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and friends. Predeceased by his parents, John Francis and Sophia Jane, brothers Joseph, John, James Gerrard and Pius, sister Mary Mackenzie and niece Anne MacInnis.

Born in Morell, Prince Edward Island in 1933, Dan moved to Hamilton at the age of 17 to work at Dofasco where he remained for 25 years, followed by 17 years with the Ontario Ministry of Labour. He took pride in chairing the finance committee at Annunciation of our Lord Catholic Church and being a member of Knights of Columbus for 58 years. Dan enjoyed helping his brother Pius with charity lobster boils, volunteering in minor hockey and advocating for people with disabilities. He was an avid golfer and relished playing in the P. E. Islander hockey league on Friday nights. In retirement, he spent summers ‘back home’ at his cottage in Lakeside, PEI where he golfed as a long-time member at the Links at Crowbush Cove. He loved sharing a wave or chat with friends as he BBQ’d on his deck. He was fond of his beloved Montreal Canadiens, Hamilton Tiger Cats and his rum. Dan loved to laugh and tell stories as he lived by his favourite quote by Frank L. Stanton, passed on to him by his father – “This old world we’re livin’ in is mighty hard to beat, we get a thorn with every rose but ain’t the roses sweet”.

Special thanks to doctors, nurses and home care workers and especially to staff of the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice for caring for Dan with kindness and compassion.
