Obituary for Sister Donalda Renner

SISTER DONALDA RENNER (DOROTHY)

The Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, (Hamilton) are saddened to announce the death of Sister Donalda Renner, at St. Joseph’s Convent, Hamilton on May 6 in her 69th year as a Sister of St. Joseph. She was born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario and was the daughter of the late John Renner and Louise Kraemer. She was predeceased by her brothers Harry, William, Leo, Frank, Wilf and Jerry and her sisters, Rita McCrudden and Rose Dolson. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her brothers Joe, Robert (Pat), Jim (Mary) and her sister Helen and her memory will be treasured by many nieces and nephews and their children. She will also be missed by the members of her religious family, the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Sister Donalda was a gifted musician and ministered as a music teacher for over 24 years in Arthur, Hamilton, Dundas, and Mount Forest before moving to the West. Her generosity and zeal for mission were reflected in her work as a Pastoral Assistant in Fort St. John, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek and at St. John’s Parish in Burlington. Sister volunteered after her retirement at Out of the Cold Hamilton, St. Vincent de Paul Store, St. Patrick’s Church as a lector and took communion to the sick as well as a visitor to various nursing homes. Sister Donalda also shared her love of music and was organist for many years in parishes and at the Motherhouse, even up to the present and was an active member of the Motherhouse Community. The Sisters of St. Joseph will welcome family and friends at St. Joseph’s Convent Hamilton on Friday, May 10 from 2-4:30 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Convent, Motherhouse on Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada for the works of the Congregation.
