Obituary for Emile Rosario Millette

MILLETTE, the Honourable Justice Emile Rosario
September 27, 1935 - May 9, 2019

At Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, ON, following a lengthy illness.
The Honourable Justice Emile Millette, devoted husband to Helen (née Foster) for 57 years. Loved and admired father of Diane (Thomas Durran), David (Shelba), Brian (Melita Aquilina), and Julie (Lee Brading). Predeceased by his son Brian in December 2018. Proud grandfather of Ryan and Mallory Durran, James and Jasen Millette, and Cobyn and Colsen Brading.

Emile was born in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan to Honorius and Rose-Marie Millette. He was the baby brother of 11 siblings. He is survived by his brother Dr. Lucien Millette, and sisters Lucienne Brière and Georgette Poliquin. Predeceased by his siblings Cécile Jan, Jeanne Chicoine, Charles Millette, Dr. Ovila Millette, Rose-Hélène Bourgeois, Dr. Honorius Millette, Roméo Millette, and Elise Buissé.

Emile attended Gravelbourg College in Saskatchewan at the young age of 11. He studied law at the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar in April of 1963. He began the practice of law with the firm Williams, Bradley, Merredew, and Millette (later Bradley and Millette) in Pembroke, ON, before continuing on in his own practice in 1981. On August 5, 1982 Emile was appointed as a judge to the District Court of Ontario (later Superior Court) by then Minister of Justice, Jean Chrétien. In his retirement from the Superior Court, he served on the Pension Appeal Board of Canada. Throughout his life, he emphasized hard work, punctuality, faith, and above all, the importance of family.

Emile’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Lucien Millette (Uncle Lou) for his guidance and support during Emile’s illness. Merci beaucoup.

A very special thank you to Dr. S. Shaikh at Joseph Brant for seemingly living at the hospital. Dr. Shaikh’s knowledge, professionalism, concern, and compassion will not be forgotten.

A Funeral Mass will be offered by Father Joseph Michel at Saint-Philippe Catholic Church, 472 Locust Street, Burlington, on Tuesday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Emile’s Knights of Columbus Chapter, Chevaliers de Colomb Conseil St-Antoine-Daniel #10340, 472 Locust Street, Burlington, L7S 1V1 will be appreciated by the family.
