Obituary for Patrick William Joseph "Pat" Wilson

Wilson, Patrick “Pat”

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved family patriarch, Pat (Poppa), on June 26, 2019 in his 91st year. Beloved husband and cherished best friend for 60 plus years to Jackie (nee Mooney). A loving and devoted father of Patti Wilson (Paul Simpson), Judi Hanta (Andy), Theresa Iorio (Vince), and Kathi Wilson (Carm Alfano). Cherished Poppa of Tyler (Nicole), Nikki, Gregory, Jessica, Alanna, Liam, Andrea, Sabrina, and Hannah. Predeceased by his loving parents, Leonard and Eileen. Brother of Frances Clark and the late Mary Lou Harris. Brother-in-law of Kathie Rosser (the late Vic), Helen Donato (Carm), the late John (the late Lou) Mooney, and Mike (Krys) Mooney. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pat worked at Stelco Hilton Works for 42 years, was a proud member of USWA Local 1005 where he served as a Chief Steward in the Tin Mill and was fondly known as the “Irish Godfather” among his co-workers because of his guidance and leadership abilities. Throughout his life, Pat was a very active parishioner of Corpus Christi and St. Lawrence Parishes. He was a strong advocate of Catholic Education serving as both a school trustee and chairperson of the board. In 2005, in recognition of this lifelong commitment, Pat received the award for Distinguished Service to Catholic Education from the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board. He was the President and member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Children’s Aid Society, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered as an Auditor for the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal. Upon retirement, Pat began volunteering at St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School in various capacities and received an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for his years of dedication.

Pat was a devoted family man and derived great pleasure in spending time with
family. He was famous for his grilled cheese sandwiches and his “Egg McWilson’s”. He was a die-hard Montreal Canadiens and Alouettes fan and an avid cheerleader for his grandchildren’s sporting and academic activities.

A special thank you to the Ready, Bellingham, Whitson, and Mrksic families and Luciano Memme for their unwavering love and support over the years. A heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at Regina Gardens for the wonderful care they provided to Pat.

Visitation will be held at the P.X. Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave., on Monday, July 1st from 4-8pm and Tuesday, July 2nd from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Catherine of Siena (Corpus Christi Site)1694 Upper James Street on Wednesday, July 3rd at 10am. Burial to take place at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Chapters of the MS Society and the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

You are our sunshine, our only sunshine.
