Obituary for Irene Ann Tassi (Volpini)

Tassi, Irene (nee Volpini)
On October 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family, Irene was re-united
with her husband, grandson, parents and dearly departed friends. Irene's heart and her door were always open. From the wealthy and powerful to the most fragile and vulnerable, Irene Tassi (nee Volpini) welcomed any and all in search of counsel, support or love. Faith-filled, hope-filled and big-hearted, Irene was a life-line to the hundreds who graced her home. What greater gift could God give to us than the mother and Nonna God gave us. She treasured every moment with her husband of 53 years, Philip Tassi, who predeceased her (August 16, 2006). She looked forward to the day she would be reunited with him and join her cherished grandson, Carson Blake. She is survived by her loving children Peter (Sharon), Dale (Kevin), Philip, and Filomena (Jim), and wonderful grandchildren Philip, Kera, Peter (Geraldine), Frank, Maria and Matthew and by sisters Mary Delsey and Rose Volpini-Hand and sister-in-law Rosaline Rocchi. Irene was predeceased by her loving parents, Delia and Ferdinando Volpini, brother Anselmo Volpini, and sisters-in-law Mary, Francis, Laura, Lina and Veronica Tassi, Nellie Caiazzo, Anne Ranalli and brothers-in-law Jack, John, Guido and James Tassi, and John Rocchi. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews. A woman ahead of her time, Irene worked as an elementary school secretary for the Hamilton Separate School Board. Later she volunteered for Aldermen, MPPs, MPs and worked as Executive Assistant to the Honourable John C. Munro, federal cabinet minister. She worked tirelessly for the rights of all Canadians. She was a caring ear and an advocate for the forgotten and ignored. Irene set exceptionally high standards for herself and wasn’t satisfied until she met them. Irene balanced all of this with her sacrificial love for her children and friends. Her greatest joy was being able to make others happy, which she often did with her warm hospitality and amazing meals. Irene’s big-heartedness was reciprocated in the care and treatment provided by the expert and loving staff of Emmanuel House Hospice. We wish to extend our deep gratitude to Emmanuel House, as well as doctors: Tony Kerigan, De Le, Pierre Major, Tim Whelan and Samantha Winemaker.
