Merk, Maria “Mary/Marica” (nee Fieder)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and Teta (aunt), Maria Merk. Born on December 6, 1924 in Dakovo, Croatia and died peacefully on November 21, 2019, at the Clarion Nursing Home in Stoney Creek, two weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Alois, and parents, Rozalia and Frank Fieder, and her siblings Elizabeth Holjevac, Anna Pavlicic, and Frank Fieder. Beloved mother to Donald Fieder and grandmother to Zachary. Stepmother to Peter Merk, and Gunther Merk (Caroline), and step-grandmother to their daughters. Teta Marica will be forever in the hearts of her beloved niece, Olga and Joe Zlataric and their family, Leah (Danny), Alana (Nicola) and Daniel. Beloved aunt to Victor (Sue), Peter (Vicky), Michael, and Ted. Dearly loved God-mother to Gertie Stefanik. Also survived by relatives in the US, Austria and Croatia. A special thank you to all the staff at the Clarion Nursing Home involved with Maria’s care.
Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME (796 Upper Gage Ave., between Mohawk and Fennell) on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. with vigil prayers at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Parish (Our Lady of Lourdes site, 416 Mohawk Rd. E.) on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
